Baby Shower Fun

I have been a delinquent blog writer (and reader) this week. I have been hard at work preparing for a baby shower for a sweet gal at church. I love parties! And I am especially grateful for the ladies at my church...

As people around town heard about the shower, the guest list grew. Which is really fun, but required the shower to be moved to a different location...one that could accommodate more than 30 people.

NC Mama gladly offered her home.

Which turns out to be am even BIGGER blessing, as the people in this house are dropping like flies with a nasty head cold.

Then, the ladies at church began to ask what food they could bring. So I showed them my menu, and six ladies took the list and are bringing the food!

Which completely opened up time for me to play with the cake! My inspiration was the pink/brown polka dot invitation that was sent out. Here is a picture of my first try with marshmallow fondant:
Listen, if you have thought about using fondant but haven't because it looks scary, forget it! I used this recipe and tutorial, and it was as easy as pie cake!  I also used this video on how to make bows.

The roses were made to cover up an accident. Remember last year when I decided to make paper flowers...well, you can use that same technique when making fondant roses. Only when it doesn't turn out just like you want it, you just roll the fondant up, and out, and start all over again!

I cannot wait for The Girls birthday party in February. She is having a Tropical Paradise theme and I am certain I will be making another fondant cake!

La Vida Dulce!

That is impressive. I have never tried my hand at cake decorating, but it sounds like fun.

So fabulous!! I was at the book store last night and was looking through a cake book. Yours is just as marvelous as the cakes in the book!! I'm co-hosting a baby shower in March. I'm feeling inspired!

So excited that you used the marshmallow fondant - it IS easy, isn't it? That cake is to die for...so cute. I am going to have to watch that tutorial on bows.

how funny, I did a marshmallow fondant cake once myself, for Emily, and made a red cake with white dots. It was a Minnie Mouse theme. Your cake is beautiful!

Wayyyy too cute to eat! Well Done :D

Friends of mine are due in August... they're waiting to find out the sex until the baby comes, but either way, they're doing a space theme for the nursery....

As I'm wondering *How in the WORLD?* I also think having a creative cake (space ship) would be fun!

Okay, so, you sing. You dance. You make beautiful aprons. And homemade banners. Handcrafted Christmas ornaments. Paper roses. Etc., etc. Now I'm supposed to add gorgeous cakes to that list? Talk about inferiority complex. Tell me, my friend, is there anything you *can't* do?

Kellie, I just have to answer Darcie's question about whether there is anything you can't do. I too, could get an inferiority complex hanging out with you. But, Kellie can't do math! Really, don't ever ask her to do such things, she just doesn't do numbers! Other than that, she is just too talented :) Love ya, K2

This cake is BEAUTIFUL!! And quite impressive for a first time. Wow! I've done fondant a few times, but never marshmallow. I'm planning to try that soon for Ellie's 5th. I'm hoping it's slightly easier than the traditional stuff. It has to be better tasting! :)

Oh Kellie what a fun cake. And I love the dots!! I decided this weekend at the retreat that baking is my new hobby, since we had to go around the room and tell our hobby and laundry didn't quite seem appropriate to the moment. And then I come home and see this!! I am going to look up that link right now.

Wow Kellie! What a great cake. I have never done the whole fondant thing. I'm scared of it. Is it really easy or are you just crafty??? Cheryl
