I have spent the last few afternoons weaving in and out of nostalgia.
Back in the day my brothers and I used to spend quite a bit of time with this machine, pretending to be news anchors reporting crazy news and making various childish noises.
I can vividly remember laying on the golden plush carpet of the formal living room, pushing the rewind button over and over, while listening and laughing with my brothers. Sometimes we laughed so hard I thought my head would split.
Oh, we thought we were the funniest things ever.
Apparently, its hereditary.
Last week The Girl received a Flip Video Camera for her birthday.
She has begged me for a video camera for over a year now.
You can imagine her excitement when her new pink colored camera arrived.
And I?
I am enjoying the laughter she and her brother make as they "make movies" using silly faces and crazy noises, then quickly huddle over the small screen to see what they've made. Laughing heart-fully.
They were making movies outside yesterday and running back into the house every 15 minutes or so to come show me how hysterical their cinematic masterpieces were unfolding...
Truth be told, they're about as funny as the audio tapes my brothers and I made... but the laughter... I wouldn't trade it for the world.

What a great present and love the sibling lovies!
Connor got one of those for Christmas and the love for it hasn't faded....
I need to purchase a new computer to hold all the videos though!!
I used to have one of those "old" ;) tape recorders in my classroom too...
FUN stuff!
I don't have one of those, but I've heard they are really cool! If you have a mac, you can do some really cool things with video clips in imovie!
oo how fun! I had one of those little mini tape ones! I was suppose to use it for taking notes ;-) Glad there is a little sibling laughter going on :-)
What a great gift! I was thinking about getting one for my 9 year-old this year, and I think I will.
Because I can't wait for the laughter :)
Love our flip. Love it. The kids sneak off with it and make crazy videos that cause motion sickness! But I crack up everytime I watch them!
My kids do the same thing with the movie feature of my Canon. It's too funny! Not the movies, but the kids watching themselves. ;)
Great post!

my kids are movie-making fiends, just like my brothers and I were 'audio cassette-making fiends'! We did all kinds of fun shows... songs, impressions, dramas. Good times.
now I want to get my kids a flip to see what they have in their imaginations :) It's the stuff memories are made of, that's for sure.
"Laughing heart-fully". Love that.
I SO remember those tape recorders. Good times, but also the time at which I discovered I DON'T like my voice in recorded form. But still fun!
How fun! Thanks for reminding me of listening to tapes with my brother. One of our favorite things was to tape episodes of The Dukes of Hazzard to listen to on car trips. My poor parents. . .
Lurve the savoring of those film making memories.
Remind me to tell you a story about video taping Big for China. Let's just say that I thought the record button was OFF! ;0)
The sound of siblings laughing together is one of my most favorite things EVER.
Glad she's loving the Flip! My iPod has a camera and my girls have been begging me lately to capture them having "Glee" concerts. OH MY GOSH. Hysterical. They've made up a great routine to "Take a Bow" and I keep threatening to film/post it on my blog!
I had that tape recorder! Loved that thing.
We just got a Flip, too. Hubby adores it. I like it because it is so easy to download video!
I haven't figured out how to post videos to the blog yet. I bet if I just took the time and did the research I could figure it out. Or I could just get The Girl & The Boy to show me how!
