Cookie Therapy

Good Morning!

Well, first I want to say thank you for all your prayers, awesome comments, emails and phone calls you sent my way yesterday. It's so nice to know I've got friends in my corner!

I'm feeling better today (and so is The Boy) so your prayers are being felt (just don't stop yet!)

I have noticed that there are four things I do during stressful times: clean, shop, bake or sew.

Since my house was already clean this week (because of all the people coming in out in preparation for the move), and filling my mini-van with gas is now over $60 each week, I knew that cleaning therapy and shopping therapy was out.

I would have opted for sewing therapy but I had to put all that stuff away when cleaning last week, and the thought of hauling it all out seemed overwhelming.

So I did what any stressed homemaker does: I made Snicker Doodles.

Cookie Therapy. It's good for what ails ya.

Let me tell you why baking (and really sewing, cleaning) is what I turn to in stressful times...because it's all measured out, folded up, or stitched straight. It's methodical, precise and all of it, COMPLETELY UNDER MY CONTROL!!!!

But I digress...

As a gift for your well wishes I am going to give you my SnickerDoodle recipe:

SnickerDoodle's, a la Kellie the CoffeeGal

3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1  egg
1/2 tsp vanilla
1- 1/2 cup flour
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp cream of tarter

Mix to roll dough in:
2 TBLS Sugar
2 TBLS cinnamon

Mix 2tbls sugar and cinnamon together and set aside.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Mix dry ingredients (except sugar) together in a bowl.
Mix softened butter, sugar and wet ingredients together until fluffy.
Add dry ingredients.

Shape dough into 1-inch balls; roll each in cinnamon sugar mixture.

Bake for 8-10 minutes.

Enjoy!

Tell me.  What do you do when stressed? Inquiring minds want to know!

Happy Friday!

Ooh, I love snicker doodles. I can't wait to try your recipe out.

As for my stress relief...I clean too. Or exercise. Or run a hot bath and lock myself in the bathroom with a glass of wine and candles. Depends on what kind of stress I suppose.

Sadly, I eat. And eat, and eat, and EAT! After which, I feel the need to run, and run, and RUN.
*smile*

Thanks for sharing your recipe. It's been years since I've made snickerdoodles.

Thanks alot!! {please hear a tiny note of sarcasm in that.} I actually love snickerdoodles and macaroons, two cookies for which I don't have a good {easy} recipe. Until now. Oh, and I eat when I am stressed. So thanks. Thanks alot!!! (: Have a good day.

I love snickerdoodles!

When I'm fighting with hubby I tend to clean, but when I'm stressed from an outside source I eat.

Those sound fabulous. There isn't much a good cookie can't cure.

Lately, I've been blog-reading when I'm stressed out. It helps to sort of lose myself in others' stories and I usually get a good perspective on what I'm going through.

Without a doubt, SEWING eases my stress! I also have a mini-sized TV with built in VCR in my sewing corner. I pop in a nice educational video from the library and GET LOST in lala sewing land.

I think you are very smart for being creative with your stress. I tend to cry which makes matters worse. Sorry, I missed yesterday's post...still not feeling well and went to the doctor. Will find out something Monday. Have a great weekend! God Bless You.

I have everything but the cream of tartar, but I will get some and make these this weekend. Snickerdoodles are my fav. Thanks for the recipe. Oh, and when I'm stressed I eat fast food (fries are my weakness) or I shop (not expensive stores, usually a trip through Target makes me feel better).

I've been busy lately so I am catching up reading my favorite blogs. When I am stressed I RUN! It is great. Sometimes I clean (especially if I am mad at my hubby - why I clean I have NO IDEA, but this is what I have done for almost 12 years when I get mad at him). Running helps the stress a lot. Of course I do pray and I get in God's word. I try to stay out of the kitchen b/c if I go in there I will eat EVERYTHING in sight just to make me feel better.

I may make these snickerdoodles with my kids tomorrow. Thanks for the recipe.

I too eat when I am stressed out. And then I feel even worse because of the guilt from eating! Another bad habit I have to deal with stress is shopping!!

Let's see...when I'm stressed..I eat, but I also fidget and piddle around...dabbling in cleaning, straightening, aimlessly walking around...I just CANNOT sit :)

When stressed, I eat! Or shop, but that depresses me because I can't fit into all the cute summer outfits, so I go home and eat again. Notice any trend here?
I wish I could be like my mo who doesn't eat and walks, long walks. Man, that gene most have missed me!

Glad you're feeling better. When I'm stressed, I also clean - or I make really long to-do lists and crank through them. Or I cry. :)

Oh Kellie,I was reading about the Boy yesterday. It must have been just heart wrenching for you as a mommy.

Change is coming for you guys, so maybe that will be good for him too? Is he good with change?
I am so glad he is feeling better now, though!

When I get stressed, I shop. I eat. I clean, too.

First gut reaction is to cry when I'm stressed, then I pray. Isn't that the wrong order???!! What I *should* do and always works very well when I do do it, is to hop on the spinning bike and pedal my stress away. Kneading bread dough is always good, too...
