Friends
The sun hasn't yet peeked her shining face over the mountains to the east.
In my opinion, this is the best part of the day in the desert; when all is cool and quiet.
I wish this part of the day wasn't so short.
This week has been such a good time for meeting up with old friends. In the last five days I have met with friends from all different times and parts of my life.
Al, Cindy, Stephanie, Jennifer, Emily, Tracy, Paula, Kristin, Kristi, Heather, Dana, and Joanna.
Common names for uncommon people.
People who can set aside the passages of time and pick up right where we left off...even when years and experiences have contoured our lives in different ways...people who each have a big piece of my heart.
And, next week there'll be more.
I'll meet with old, and new, friends.
Friends here in the desert and friends from different parts of the country.
Three of whom I have never spoken to face-to-face.
This time next week I will be sipping coffee with Gretchen, Susan, Amber and Jennifer in a part of the country I have never been.
A beautiful place called Whidbey Island in Washington state.
A place where I am certain my heart will stretch to a greater capacity that will leave me speechless; for the expansion of the heart is always amazing to me.
Abraham Lincoln once said: The better part of ones life consists of his friendships.
I couldn't agree more.

I agree...friends are fabulous. How awesome that you have had so much time with so many different friends. I find some days fly by and a month or 2 could go by without seeing my bff's. I can't wait to hear all about your visit with the girls!!! All of you in one place..priceless!
*sigh*
seriously can't wait.
going to be AMAZING!
How wonderful! As a Washingtonian (I'm fairly sure that's a word!) I know you'll have a lovely time. Can't wait to hear about your week!
Oh, I heart Whidbey island.
I'll be easy to find in the baggage claim area. I'll be the one with the biggest smile on her face.
oo glad to hear your having such a great trip! How fun that the kids get to help at the zoo (saw that on your tweet)! Have a great time :-)
Love the phrase "stretching of one's heart"....
Looking forward to seeing ya' next week.
Friends are just absolutely therapy for my heart and soul. Those I've met online and those I've known for years..each sharpen me, touch me, make me laugh in a different way...treasures, for sure.
I will be wishing I were on the Island with all of you girls but I am thinking that as soon as you get home we MUST try to get a date together to meet up...in light of the distance MOST of us all live apart, we are actually close..so let's do it, okay?!
Thanks for being a very special part of my life...love you!
I wish I could come. If this heat keeps up you won't be in too much shock coming from the dessert. But seriously Whidbey Island is lovely:)
You are really traveling everywhere aren't you? Are you feeling homesick yet?
Beautiful words, Kellie. I know the time together will be nothing short of amazing. I'm trying so hard not to throw myself a pity party right now.
Friends are so special. Truly God's gift.
Have a great time in Whidbey!!! Hug all the girls for me!!! :)
CPQ told me of the great adventure that awaits at the end of the week. How wonderful!!!
Just a little jealous =)
I have a friend who was stationed at WI in Washington, and she LOVED it. I think you'll enjoy it. :) Thanks for the visit!
