Halloween Fun

Halloween was interesting this year.

Two years ago we took our little Darth Vader and Pegasus to a neighborhood down the street. Our neighborhood is an older neighborhood with homes on wooded acre lots. Not great for trick or treating, unless your training for a marathon.

Anyway, in this subdivision down the way, we had hit the mother-load, coming home more candy than we could possible eat before Christmas time.

I don't know if the economy kept people from wanting to spend to much money on candy for trick or treaters, or if Friday night opened up the evening for parties and football games. But there were more dark doors than lit on Friday night.

It was OK though because we got to trick or treat with some freinds, and it was fun to visit and chat while walking the neighborhood begging for treats.

It seems hard to believe that it was only one year ago when I took my kiddos out in the streets of Arizona dressed in a short sleeve shirt and capri pants!  This year, in jeans, a sweater, and long coat, I was sorry I hadn't brought my gloves. But the sweet smell of fall is the best reason to trick or treat in this part of the country.

Fall in NC is incredibly rich. I'll have pictures tomorrow.

Anyway, we came home with just enough candy to assuage our palette, until I start baking all things ginger and sweet.

Let the festivities begin!!!!!

Great pics.

No less sweets in our neighbourhood! Our kids seemed to get more this year, and I am trying hard to resist eating it.

I can send you some of our candy! We just go to our church festivities but between three kids we get WAY too much. I'm intending some of it to go to our Samaritan's Purse Shoeboxes.
I love Snow White and Indiana Jones. Anna got teased about Princesses in first grade and doesn't want anything to do with them in public. At home that is a different matter (thankfully!).

Oh they are too cute!! I wanted Connor Bear to be Indiana Jones!!!

I agree that it was a bit dark around the neighborhood where we trick or treated but the kids didn't seem to notice or mind...glad they're thankful for what they got!!

Can't wait to see pics of NC!

The kids might not have appreciated the dark doors but as a mom I know I would have. I always end up tossing a ton of Halloween candy anyway.

Your two little trick-or-treaters looked adorable!

Your kiddos are growing up! So adorable.

And I don't even want to hear about the fall weather (my favorite time of year!) It's projected to be in the 80s again here this week. Boo.

I noticed our neighborhood was a little less lit up this year as well. I hope this isn't a continuing trend! Your kids look so cute in their costumes :-)

Ginger and sweet are good! We didn't get to trick or treating as long as I wanted to (one house!) but that's okay, maybe next year. It's getting a little chillier here, too.

Your kids looked so adorable! It was the opposite in our neighborhood. My son got A LOT and then snuck more out of his basket than I realized and was sick, sick, sick Friday night! Hopefully, lesson learned on his part.

Less lights on in our neighborhood, too, but no lack of sweets! The homes that were open were sooooo generous, and the girls were very thankful.

Oh, I wish I had needed gloves. I wore shorts, sandals and a t-shirt...well, you know what THAT is like here in Almost Mexico, AZ!

The kids look great - fun costumes. The boys only went for about an hour this year - in the past they've went in and out between eating pizza and drinking water and bathroom breaks for about 3 hours. We went with friends this year and they were having too much fun together at the house. They decided they had enough candy. :)

That is so funny -- because we had the same experience. Last year was like a landslide of candy and this year there were so many houses that remained dark. We still had fun -- and I'm kind of glad we didn't do the "candy overload," but it's interesting that you found it to be the same where you are.

Great costumes!

I loved the way you described the NC fall. My hubby and I have always said that NC is on our short list of states that we would love to move to...and I can only imagine how beautiful it is right now.

What fabulous costumes. He's a great Indiana. And I think I had that same Snow White costume when I was little. It was my favorite:)
