Call Back

I read this poem from an excerpt of Streams in the Desert by Mrs Charles E Cowman this week and I can't stop thinking about it.

Its about struggles in life. The Valleys. The Storms. And the encouragement that gets us through.

It reminded me that I need to "Call Back". To remember that in the business of life, I musn't be blind to those around me who need to know there is hope.

~~~~~
 Life is a steep climb, and it does the heart good to have somebody "call back" and cheerily beckon us on up the high hill. We are all climbers together, and we must help one another. This mountain climbing is serious business, but glorious. It takes strength and steady step to find the summits. The outlook widens with the altitude. If anyone among us has found anything worthwhile, we ought to "call back."
If you have gone a little way ahead of me, call back--
"Twill cheer my heart and help my feet along the stony track;
And if, perchance, Faith's light is dim, because the oil is low,
Your call will guide my lagging course as wearily I go.
Call back, and tell me that He went with you into the storm;
Call back , and say He kept you when the forest's roots were torn;
That when the heavens thunder and the earthquake shook the hill,
He bore you up and held you where the very air was still.
Oh, friend, call back, and tell me for I cannot see your face;
 They say it glows with triumph, and your feet bound in the race;
But there are mists between us and my spirit eyes are dim,
And I cannot see the glory, though I long for word of Him.
But if you'll say He heard you when your prayer was but a cry,
And if you'll say He saw you though the night's sin-darkened sky--
If you have gone a little way ahead, oh, friend, call back---'
Twill cheer my heart and help my feet along the stony track.
That's so encouraging to me this morning! And a reminder to look for the one that's struggling.
Thanks for sharing.
This poem is so true. We all need other Christians and someone else needs us! Would you mind if I shared the poem with some friends?
Thanks for sharing that poem. It is precisely what I was looking for to begin Bible study next Tuesday. Blessings on your day, Kellie!
You have been doing that, calling back. I mean I know we just "met" but I already have felt very encouraged by your words from a little ahead of where I'm at.
That's a great poem. I hadn't heard of Mrs. Cowman before but have come accross two of her poems in just the last week.
This has nothing to do with the poem, but I forgot to tell you in your post that Sally Clarkson lives in my town! (Have I told you that before?) This summer, I read her book with a group from my old church and she came and spoke to our group once. It was nice to meet her. She lives down the street from one of my friends! I always think I'll run into her at the grocery store or the library, but I never have. Enjoy your conference.
That is wonderful...so true. I want to be able to give that kind of encouragement...and to receive it when I'm walking through my own valley.
Loved reading this poem--thanks for sharing. Reminds me that I need to get out my "Streams in the Desert" again--what a great devotional.
