The ONLY Political Post You Will Ever See On This Blog

My friend Stephanie J. over at Bike Book Bread has this post up regarding the election that really makes me say AMEN!!!

I agree with it 100%, but I also must add:

I am not into politics. And the reason I am not into politics is because most people cannot talk about them without being (overly) emotionally involved.  And when emotions get involved, things often turn ugly. This is especially disconcerting when ugliness happens with people you care about.

When things turn ugly people feel like they have two options: fight or flight.

I am of the flight kind, mostly because I know nothing about politics, except what I need to know to make an educated vote.

As a general rule, I avoid talking politics to avoid the fighters.  I avoid fighters because they often throw around words that are hurtful; words that they probably don't mean. Words that in the end cannot be taken away.

At the end of the day, the people in my life are not Republicans and Democrats. They are family and friends. They are people. They are the ones who will living alongside me in this life long after the election is over. They are the ones I live with. They are the ones I love.

It's about relationship, and in my opinion, that is worth fighting for... Politicians will come and go, but relationships last a lifetime.

This is the end of the one and only post on politics you will hear me type. Except maybe the post entitled: Halleluia! This Campaign is Finally Finished!

Very good point about not viewing people as republicans or democrats. Why do people let that define them?

I think you summarized everything I would want to say. I know my beliefs and I find out about my "hot button" issues and then I make an educated decision. I dont want to fight with anyone you wont change my opinion and I am ready for the election to be over! So, well said Kellie!

The article you linked to was convicting to me. I think I have been letting the upcoming election overwhelm my thoughts and emotions lately. But I have to admit it feels like we are standing at a crossroads as a nation right now. We have a possible future president who wants to blow the doors wide open on things I am opposed to in the very core of my being--abortion being at the top of the list. It just feels too laissez-faire to not concern myself with how my friends and family are voting--especially those who I know are believers. How can we not be concerned that they know the truth of what we are opening ourselves up to in the way that we vote? A good friend and I had a discussion that was somewhat uncomfortable about all this just yesterday but I felt like we handled it very graciously and it never turned into anything ugly. But I couldn't just stand by and not share with her what I had discovered and leave her in the dark. I absolutely believe that God is in control and will put the leaders that we need (even if it's not who we think we need) into place. But I don't want to use that as an excuse not to talk about the real issues and the consequences we may all face for what we didn't say in an effort not to make waves.
(BTW, Hi Kellie!! Thanks so much for leaving a comment on my blog--I do plan to post again sometime soon!! :) )
