Finding Normal and a Random Poll

Hey there good bloggers! And readers!

Why is it that in the middle of trying to find a new "normal" I always want to start a project?

Am I the only one who does this?

Anyway, here I am trying to establish new routine; Trying to get everything under my umbrella of responsibility done in an organized and functional matter, and I can't stop thinking about art projects!  Who needs to plan for tomorrow's school lesson, or cook dinner, or return emails or phone calls, or get the menu sorted, when I could cut and glue and sew instead?

You know the crafting bug has bit when I have time to read blogs but choose to create instead!

So here is the project I am going to start as soon as I log off this time-consuming computer!
Last year I saw this at Pottery Barn and thought to myself, you could make this!

I attempted to start last year, but got started too late. I actually went to the PB kids last weekend to see if they were going to sell this banner again this year, but no, they're not. It's just as well. I can whip out a La Vida knock-off and it might be more cost-effective. Although, with the way I craft, it's highly unlikely!

I just love the fall colors and the sentiment of this banner.

Speaking of fall colors...

I need some blogger advice.

You see, I haven't found a hair stylist in this town yet. Which is a very scary thing for me, because if you have read this blog more than twice, you know that I like good hair.

Anyway, to add insult to injury we currently have two mortgages and until we can get the AZ house rented I won't be seeing the inside of a salon for awhile. Desperate times call for desperate measures and I desperately need to do something with the gray roots popping out of my scalp. Which means (I hope you are sitting down....) that I am going to have to color my own hair.

I know, I know!

Here is the random poll:

Do you color your own hair? If you do, what is your favorite over-the-counter-color brand?

Talk to me!

I do, and I usually go with whatever big brand that's cheapest. Like L'Oriel or Clairol or whatever. It seems the blondes are trickier shades than the brunettes, so it's fairly straightforward... you pick what you want, and you'll get the results on the box. Warm tones = reddish highlights. I usually go with a light to medium brown and if I feel like some red, I'll get the warm light or medium brown.

Also, it's also very dark the first day or so but I doubt that would bother you, (since we both have dark hair)...

That is such a cute craft idea, I can't wait to see how yours turns out. (and to read your tips!) Maybe I will try it myself someday.:) I have colored my hair in the past, but I don't remember what brand I used...it wasn't too bad. I would still do it myself but now I prefer highlights. Hope it goes well for you!

Too funny! I bought that banner from PB Kids last year, got it home, put it up and decided there was no way I could justify the price. I too thought about making one after I had returned it but I never did. Good luck and let us know if you make your own version.

Yes, to the chagrin of my very expensive, extremely talented hair guru, I do color my own hair. The haircut is so expensive I cannot spend the money on having my gray professionally colored. I use Natural Match by L'Oreal Paris. I vascilate between 6N and 5N. I really like this product as it is multi-tonal.

Good luck!

Nope...I pay the big bucks to have my hair highlighted. I am S-C-A-R-E-D to do it myself. You let me know how it goes! :)

Super cute banner. I wish I was crafty enough to make one. If you make one, will you share your pattern??

oo that banner looks so cute!! I colored my hair once.. It was dirty blond at the time and I tried to make it strawberry blond.. I looked like carrot top about 2 weeks before going back to college after summer break! I had to go to the salon and get it fixed. My SIL is a hairstyles in Atlanta so I get her color mine now.. good luck :-)

L'Orel is usually the brand I use. You had mentioned the frizz I use drugstore brand frizz out serum.

I can't wait to see your finished project. I love that banner. I wouldn't mind making one if I was crafty enough. I'm looking forward to your pics.

I LOVE that banner...if I was a little more crafty, I might try to pull it off, too. Be sure to show us the end result!

I have no hair coloring advice for you...I haven't colored mine in about 7 years. However, with the amount of gray that has been popping up this past year, I am thinking I might have to start soon. :) I'll be checking back in your comments for advice!

I love the banner!! That looks like a great project. Oh, and yes, I do that too. Whenever my "to do" list is overwhelming, I tackle a creative outlet. Of course, this only adds to my to do list and usually creates more mess than anything else, but I'm happy while I do it. :)

As for hair, I have self-colored in the past, but it's been an all-over thing rather than just a grey-concealer. My favorite brand is L'oreal.

Very Cute banner.... wondering how to modify for the seniors and making a little one for next month's craft... I'm dying to use some felt!!

I've colored, but always done streaks and highlights... easier on blonde hair probably.

And I've used the name brand on sale... seems like there's a herbal essence brand I liked a couple years ago....

post pics when you've done it all :D

You could also try one of the root touch-up products out now. They're easy and quick and will give you a few more weeks before you have to commit to doing it yourself or to finding a salon.

Well i may be a good 10 years your senior but I don't HAVE to color my hair........although there are many other signs of aging my hair is not one of them SO NO I HAVE NEVER COLORED MY OWN HAIR.

That banner is way too cute. I can't wait to see how yours turns out. Judging from your aprons and that knotted fabric swag thing you made for the girls room I'm sure it will turn out beautifully!
