A Little of This...A Little of That

Good Saturday morning!

Wow! Taking a break from blogging is pretty tough. I have missed hearing from you (although I will admit I read some of your blogs this week!) Limiting my computer time was tough, but it was also very freeing.

Last night the swimming season was officially over.  I love the swimming season, but I must admit I am glad that it is over. Maybe it's because I have a lot on my plate right now. Or maybe it's because the grueling schedule is tiring after 4 months. I don't know. I'm just glad that it's over.

Of course, I am not excited, AT ALL, that school starts in 48 hours. We did meet the teachers last week and they seem very nice. I cannot believe that this is the last year The Boy will be in elementary school. When did that happen?

I remember 5th grade. Vividly. It was not my best year.

Anyway...I am getting ready to post on Comparison tomorrow. But I need help!  I want to do a Mr. Linky but it looks like you have to pay for it. Is that true? Has anybody else used this widget without having to pay for it?

If there is a fee for the widget, I probably won't buy it. Instead I will just email those who said they were going to write their own post on Comparison and I will link you directly from my post tomorrow. If you have decided that you want to write about it too, let me know so that I can link you.

Last but not least...This question has been burning in my blog post queue for awhile:

Are you strategic about making change?

I am  not talking life changes here, I am talking about money.

A few weeks ago The Mister and I took the kids to get some ice cream and he was lamenting that I had so many pennies in my car but not any quarters, dimes, or nickels.

I learned something new about my handsome man that night: He strategically uses coins so that he doesn't end up with pennies. He likes to keep less than 5 pennies (to use only in moments when it will keep him from accumulating more pennies).

Occasionally I will do this when it is obvious, and results in getting back whole dollars. But not to keep from getting pennies.

I am interested in knowing if you do this too.

So the July Random Poll:

Are you a strategic money changer?

Well since I never have cash.. I guess I am strategic ;-) because I never get pennies back with my Debit card.. But when I actually do have cash I usually dont think about using pennies up and stuff like that.

Yay, you're back from your blogging break! :)

Hmmm...we typically use cash to pay for everything, and I love to use up my change if at all possible. However, I also don't mind collecting the leftover change and throwing it in a jar...every couple of months I roll it up, and I'm always amazed at how much we've accumulated. So, I can't say I give it as much thought as your hubby does. :)

I like saving pennies -- so I'm all about acquiring them :D.

And you don't watch enough tv to justify having a DVR/TiVo ... you're WAY too busy :D :D

Remember, this is the thing himself & I have in common... slothful tv watching.

My husband in more concerned with numbers and would pay attention to things such as having certain types of coins. Me not so much. I usually have no cash or change (I pay with plastic.)

BTW- I actually liked the 5th grade. I remember it being pretty uneventful which was good for me. It was a long, long, long time ago.

Good luck with that!

I'm like you--I use change when it will come to the exact amount so I can get back dollars. But my husband can't be bothered with math always gets loose change back--pennies and everything:)

Glad you're back to blogging. I have prayed for you this week as you are getting the kiddos to start back to school. Strategic money changer - me? Not really. We actually sponser a ministry call Love-A-Child and we have a change box in our kitchen where we put all of our spare change. When it is full, we cash it in and then send it the ministry. I first got involved in this through my mother-in-law. This money supports children who live in Haiti who eat mud b/c they are so hungry. I read my children a story about these kids. My chidren were so moved they immediately went all over our house looking for change - under the sofa, under the cushions, in the junk drawers. You name it, they looked. The result? $77 in change just lying around our home when there were people out there starving. I was so convicted!!! So that is what we do with our extra change. I try to put it in our change box ASAP so that we are not tempted to spend it.

Being strategic about making change would require me to do a lot of math in my head, which I try to avoid at all costs. :) So, no. I do what you do -- use change only when it will result in me getting dollars back.

I'm a no-cash girl, so I rarely have change!

I very rarely use cash. When I do though, I am like the Mister in that I avoid getting pennies back in change if at all possible.

Here's a secret though: I'm not so great at math. Couple that with the fact that I normally have at least two children running around when I am paying who tend to distract me a bit. So, sometimes my efforts to end up with less pennies don't really work out so great, but I try. :)

I never use change. It's always my debit card or paper money. I collect all of the change in the van and in the bottom of my handbags and keep it in a jar until I have something I want to splurge on. Then, I head to the Coinstar & hope for the best. I'm always surprised at how much that spare changed ends up being.

Am I a strategic money changer?

Heavens, no! I've never even thought about it to tell you the truth!

Great question.
